ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the religious teaching, and illustrates how the students exercised their ingenuity and sense of humour at the expense of the Buddhist and Taoist sects. When a man is momentarily in favour with the powers that be, all sorts of people will undoubtedly do their best, unbidden, to curry favour with him. Blessed Pure One was now to learn this elementary truth. Nuns of the Taoist and Buddhist faiths from all the known cloisters and temples and convents of the capital came running to pay their respects to Blessed Pure One and overwhelm the Grand old Mistress with gifts and flattery. In the name of elementary fairness and justice, the petition claimed that the orthodox, moral teachings of Master Kung tse, which were recognised by the state, should be duly considered when the controversial property was being divided among the various religious sects.
