ABSTRACT

His father, Kin Yuh, had passed the usual state examinations in his early days and had embraced an official career, culminating in the exalted office of Military Governor of the Province of Fukien. One day, Master Chao from Hang chow arrived to pay his respects to Master Kin Yuh. The student Lien Yuahn knew perfectly well that the young master might be anywhere except in the house. But he was too discreet to say so. So he pretended to help the gate-keeper search the house. Young Lien Yuahn ran to his master, beaming with joy and rubbing his hands, to report that old gentleman had returned and all was well.
