ABSTRACT
The idea of The Story of Sim Ch’ǒng’, that is the basic plot which appears in all versions, is one to catch the imagination, and, unusually for Korean literature, it seems to have no close parallel in other oriental literatures. At the very least, a basically good idea for a story has been worked into many good, distinctively Korean tales.
