Conclusion

Part-time work arrangements i n the legal profession are seen as a solution to the work / f ami ly time dilemmas faced by many lawyers i n their child-rearing years. M o s t lawyers w h o work o n these alternative schedules are w o m e n , because w o m e n are normatively more free to choose to do so and because chi ld care, considered to be women's responsibility, is the most commonly accepted justification for granting part-time schedules. Despite the fact that w o m e n attorneys are a significant and growing proport ion o f the profession, part-time work is neither typical nor c o m m o n .
