Women Warriors in the War on Poverty

This book presents the only longitudinal study of women community workers hired in Community Action Programs (CAPs) during the War on Poverty.1 It explores this valuable form of work through voices of women on the front line of the fight for social justice and economic survival in low-income neighborhoods in New York City and Philadelphia. From their personal accounts we learn of their lifelong dedication to this challenging work-for some beginning as early as the 1940s.
