ABSTRACT

Anyway, those mines closed, must've been about 1934, because I was born in 1930, my brother was born in 1928-we're the only ones who were born in Colorado. After Morley, we moved to Terrero, New Mexico. It's a national park now, but those used to be mines, not coal mines, but some kind of mineral. The place is still there. At that time, my daddy set up a store for himself; I remember very clearly going to his store. And they used to pay the miners with paper money, like coupons-I remember walking across a swinging bridge with my brother to go buy candy at the general store, and we paid with coupons. The miners used to be lowered in buckets into the mines. We were not there long; I guess it was about '35 when the mines in Terrero closed too.
