ABSTRACT

Market pressures mean that many corporations now see new information and communication technologies as a key to more efficient forms of organisation, based on decentralised operational control. The benefits on offer are in terms of some combination of increased responsiveness and reduced cost. Whilst recent versions of 'business process re-engineering' claim to provide an integrated approach to 'change management', the reality of most programmes of technical and organisational change is that there are a number of distinct change initiatives, led by people with different occupational backgrounds, identities, and 'change' techniques.
