ABSTRACT

The author describes her work, as a dramatherapist, with a young boy in a primary school. She explain her decisions about the model and style of the work, and describe in detail the dramatherapy process which spanned a year and a half, highlighting significant themes and threads. The author employes by an education authority as a member of a team of teachers and ancillaries who work with children and young people with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. Supervision was intrinsic to the work and essential for it to progress. She assess by discussing the child with staff, through observation in class, paying particular attention to behaviours such as interaction with peers and adults, motivation and the ability to engage with tasks. The ending process seemed to be a positive experience for young boy Adam. Working with Adam was an illuminating, painful and creative experience.
