The way ahead

Worcester is one of many cathedrals seeking multi-million-pound funding for allegedly vital repairs; it is a matter of fashion. A visit to many of these indigent establishments reveals extremely costly interior redecoration. Southwark is now the epitome of gilded vulgarity. At York Minster there was a real problem in spending all the money donated to restore the fire-gutted transept, though the greatest difficulties were with the monies for specified items.
