ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION This unit explores new developments in policy, provision and practice for children with special educational needs (SENs) in England, and the implications of these for trainee and beginning teachers. It is recommended that the content of the unit is considered together with that in Unit 6.2, ‘Providing for differentiation’, because effective differentiation, based on the premise that schools and teachers seek to welcome all learners, is at the heart of making good provision for children with SENs.
