An Evidence-based Code-Switching Program for Young AAE-Speaking Students

Prior research shows that sole use of AAE or other “non-standard” dialects is negatively related to academic success. CA can help AAE-speaking students learn to switch to SAE in literacy tasks, predicting better academic achievement, especially for reading acquisition. Leading scholars recommend that schooling include the teaching of SAE to AAE-speaking students to help ensure their potential for mobility between their heritage culture and the mainstream culture of the U.S.
