Other suggested criteria

It is realised, of course, that this cannot be the only criterion applied in the attempt to classify burials as Christian, and in Part 2 of this chapter a number of ranked criteria are developed which make further progress towards such identification. Nevertheless, it would appear that the presence of such neo-natal burials is one reliable guide to the identification of Christian cemeteries from the fourth century to the end of the Roman period.
