ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the dynamic, multidimensional, and talent specific view of giftedness as applied in Israel. It elaborates on the pedagogies and science learning opportunities offered to gifted students, based on this model. To enable young students to discover their realm of talent, the division for gifted and outstanding students administers enrichment programmes using three frameworks: regional centers for the gifted, classes for the gifted in regular schools, and e-learning via a virtual school. A virtual school allows gifted students within their age-groups to learn courses in online classrooms. All tenth and eleventh grade students with high achievements at school may participate in accelerated learning tracks that incorporate academic studies alongside regular school studies. The scientific practices, according to the framework for science education, include asking questions, developing models, planning and executing investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, using mathematics and computing, building explanations and planning solutions, building arguments based on evidence, and obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information.
