ICT and learning: challenge and change

In the school in question, a major element of its innovatory programme was the use of ICT as a lever of change, including (but not limited to) to pedagogy, student motivation and assessment. This chapter addresses contemporary changes to teaching and learning that have been brought about with ICT in classrooms. It roots the discussion in principles of social and cognitive constructivism, student-centred and engaged learning, collaborative learning, active and interactive learning, student motivation and involvement in learning, communication and participation. All of these areas are related to ICT, and are the central substance of the actual innovation in the school reported in this book. Further, the chapter indicates the roles of leaders and leadership in developing ICT for pedagogy, student learning and achievement, teachers and parents.
