ABSTRACT

As we have already mentioned, close relationships are steeped in emotions through conversations, celebrations, arguments, shared activities, working on problems together, and the list goes on. These and so many other interactions with close family and friends trigger emotional reactions in us every day of the year. So too, we constantly trigger emotional reactions in others. So let’s take a closer look at some of the commonly encountered positive emotions (happiness, joy and love) and difficult emotions (sadness, anger and fear). These are the core primary emotions described in Chapter 5. The exercises in this chapter will give you a chance to do some scuba diving, reflect more deeply on your core emotional experiences and consider how you and your partner express your deeper feelings.
