ABSTRACT

How we interact in the world in general and in our relationships in particular is driven by multiple factors operating simultaneously. The last chapters have been focusing on emotions, helping you distinguish between different emotions (e.g., sadness, fear, shame) and different types of emotions (core or reactive). You have probably discovered that your negative relationship dance is fueled by how you both handle the core emotions as discussed in Chapter 6. But, what sets off these core emotions? What evokes them? In this chapter we will be answering these questions and exploring another important dimension of your experience and your relationship.
