ABSTRACT

A thorough literature review provides a solid foundation for any research endeavor, and is the way we situate our work in the context of what others have done. It is useful to think of journals and conferences as the communication medium in which a scholarly community is developed. This chapter introduces the reader to various types and purposes of the literature review also introduces presents technology tools and strategies for more quickly identifying literature that is important to a particular scholarly inquiry. It analyzes a general process for conducting a literature review is shared and examples within the blended learning domain at each stage of the process. The beginning of any literature review process can feel quite daunting. Searches in online databases often yield thousands of results not organized in any way. As researchers begin to identify relevant research they begin to organize the research in a meaningful way.
