ABSTRACT

This conclusion chapter discusses some closing thoughts in the further chapter of the book. It focuses on the story of a journey by a community in an early childhood centre, searching for possibilities for music within an active arts programme. After exploring the historical context of arts education and music education in early childhood settings, people explained the context of the Early Learning Centre (ELC) with which they have been involved. The ideas of musical play, multiculturalism, music as an expressive language from birth and the quality of experience led to an emphasis on modes of expression. The aims of the research have been realised that people has been convinced of young children's competence in exploring and playing with musical concepts through their observations. The process has been an integral part of the centre's overall research interest in curriculum approaches and the music programme was underpinned by theoretical threads that gave the music enterprise integrity within the centre's curriculum.
