ABSTRACT

This chapter examines an example of contemporary creative and relational pedagogical practice in relationship to the institutions that hosted it. Designed to offer an alternative dramaturgical approach for students in higher education in Japan, the focus was placed on the use of participative drama to create spaces for dialogue and understanding. For the purposes of discussion about relational creative learning and pedagogical practices it focus on one Japanese stage of the project, as it was particularly significant for the development of our thinking about creativity and democracy. The chapter analyses on second-year diploma drama students at the higher education institution. These were achieved within an applied drama process in which the aim was not to settle conflicting voices in order to achieve resolution but to engage in the model of creativity itself. This long-term project moves between Japan and the UK for 7 to 10 days in each country, and it focus on one of the Japanese stages.
