ABSTRACT

Some performance artists, such as Lily Allen, have argued that their royalties have been dramatically reduced since music downloads via peer-to-peer (P2P) fi le-sharing have become increasingly easy. In the form of some case studies, this chapter will focus on the development of the phonogram (recording) industry and the technological developments which have led to some industrial copyright infringements, such as internet piracy, P2P fi le-sharing and sampling. The chapter also touches on other IP violations in the book publishing, fi lm and games industries.
