ABSTRACT

Background of the Study Targets’ experiences of interpersonal bullying were studied when participants from a larger inquiry on agents’ subjective experiences of work in India’s international-facing call centres, conducted in Bangalore and Mumbai (see Chapter 5 and Noronha and D’Cruz 2009a for details of this study), identifi ed themselves as such. D’Cruz and Noronha (2009a) probed further to understand these participants’ predicament and were able to establish that they were indeed targets of interpersonal bullying by examining descriptions of their experiences in the light of Einarsen et al.’s (2003b) defi nition of the phenomenon. Ten participants from Noronha and D’Cruz’s (2009a) larger study were thus identifi ed as targets of interpersonal bullying and were requested to share their experiences. All 10 agreed to participate.
