ABSTRACT

Most people who attend cultural events (e.g. concerts, festivals, exhibitions, displays) or patronize cultural facilities (e.g. galleries, museums, libraries, zoos) are seeking a leisure experience. At the same time the administrators of these event and facilities make substantial use of volunteers, which includes engaging them to serve the visiting public. Additionally, administrators of these places are responsible for marketing the art, science or heritage feature they have been hired to manage. Thus they can benefit from knowledge about the needs and experiences of their visitors and their distribution in the population.
