ABSTRACT

In library and information science (LIS) interest in serious leisure, especially as manifested in the hobbies, dates to the work of Jenna Hartel (2003). Since her pioneering study leisure has developed into a separate specialty in that field. There, leisure activities are conceived of as helping to frame both the production and the dissemination of information bearing on those activities. In the past LIS had leaned heavily toward studying scholarly and professional informational domains, while largely ignoring those related to leisure.
