ABSTRACT

One of the great problems of the near future will be the dramatic shrinking space of earth, of life-size reality. The effect of being enclosed which Foucault noted in the eighteenth century will in fact characterize the twenty-first. What will human space be like in a world reduced to nothing by supersonic and instantaneous communications? Space as emptiness will be unlimited and space as fullness drastically limited. There will be a new interface between the solid and the fluid, except now the terrestrial littoral is vertical!
