ABSTRACT

Banks are some of the most innovative and fast-developing companies in Russia, and they employ large numbers of highly educated professionals. Banks possess a number of unique distinguishing traits that are reflected in their choices of human resource development (HRD) strategies. Eighty-three percent of banks had their own training centers or corporate universities, and these units were training close to 80" of employees of all levels. This chapter discusses the HRD strategies in Sberbank and VTB Bank. The Sberbank is the largest bank in the Russian Federation. The review of corporate documentation suggests that Sberbank has a clearly defined human resource strategy, focused on developing human capital in support of the overall strategic goals of the organization. The bank emphasizes that its employees are one of the main sources of its competitive advantage. The VTB bank's mission statement states that the main goal of the bank is to promote and modernize the Russian financial system.
