ABSTRACT

A glossary is an alphabetical list of terms connected with a particular subject together with an explanation of their meanings. This chapter explains what a glossary is and how a glossary is often found at the back of an information text. When people are studying a topic, encourage the pupil to compile glossaries of terms that are specific to that topic. For example, when people are studying a historical topic, such as the Romans or the Egyptians, encourage the class to build up a glossary. People can put the glossary on the computer, encourage individuals to add terms to it and then print out a copy to put on the classroom wall. It suggest to find an information book and to show the class an example of a glossary and read out one or two examples of the definitions of the terms it includes.
