ABSTRACT

The purpose of an advertisement is to persuade people to buy a particular product/service or to inform people about an event. This chapter explains that while advertisements for products and services provide you with information about the product or service, their main aim is to persuade you to buy that product or service. It talks about how people often sell things they no longer need by putting an advert in a shop window or the classified advertisements column of a newspaper. Write an advertisement for something one has for sale, such as a broomstick, a wand, a book of recipes for spells, a crystal or a phial of potion. Remember that when one is placing an advert in a magazine or newspaper, the more words one use the more one has to pay, so keep one's advert short and clear a maximum of 25 words.
