This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the articulations between Japanese Adult Videos (AV) and the local Taiwanese society. It also discusses how the illegal reproduction of Japanese AVs as pirated versions and technological advances allow the local counterfeiters to revise Japanese AVs at will, producing them as something more local. The book then presents why Taiwanese women showed little interest in pornography in general but tended to identify with American pornography. In pornography studies, while consumption has been the object of much discussion in the academia over the past decades, neither the production nor circulation of pornography has been given enough attention. Pornography is not only a representation, a text, a popular genre, an outlaw discourse, a profane mass culture, or a category; it is after all and above all a commodity.
