ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents that the Taiwanese production of Japanese adult videos (AV) is mediated by the cultural code of sex in Taiwan. The Taiwanese counterfeiters reproduced the pirated version of Japanese AVs according to the local sex roles of men and women, transforming Japanese AVs into Taiwanese A-pian. The medium that carried Japanese AVs, due to technological advances and other reasons, changed from cable programmes through VCDs to internet files in Taiwan in the 1990s. The creativity of Taiwanese people also challenges the fixed classification of Japanese AVs as global and their Taiwanese counterparts as local. Taiwanese women did not find the female characters of either Japanese AVs or American pornography real to them because their understanding of the female sexual being as human-like departs profoundly from the images of the female characters portrayed in them.
