ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss religious beliefs in China. In the next chapter, we explore another form of beliefs—superstition. Chinese citizens have many options in terms of religion. Religion in China has evolved from the ancient “Three for One,” a combination of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, to a diverse number of religious choices today. However, policies related to the protection and restriction of religious beliefs differ vastly from those of Western countries. In this chapter, we discuss these topics in detail and in the Road Ahead section we predict no major changes related to Chinese religious beliefs in the near term.
