ABSTRACT
In a society that has historically valued knowledge and learned individuals, even the most successful people can never have too many degrees and certifications, especially if a degree brings prestige. In China, the EMBA degree is one such degree that is a category of its own. It is not uncommon to find billionaires (in USD) in Chinese EMBA classrooms, not as speakers, but as students. It is quite common for both successful business owners and senior executives across all sectors to enroll in EMBA programs, which have become a microcosm of society representing the elite of the Chinese business world. We first provide an overview of EMBA programs in China, which we follow with a discussion on who attends these programs and why. We then discuss student experiences in Chinese EMBA programs. In the Road Ahead section, we make a few predictions about EMBA education in China.
