ABSTRACT

He appreciated my contribution, but he thought the way they all learn best was when they discussed it amongst themselves….

One of the major diffi culties for people with a learning disability is not having access to information which is essential to us all. People with a learning disability require the same access to information as you and I, as part of our society and of local communities. This is not merely a moral obligation, but because of the Equality Act (2010), it is now unlawful to discriminate against learning disabled people. As a requirement of the Equality Act (2010) the need not to discriminate applies to nearly all organisations and services, for example:

• hotels • shops • restaurants • government organisations such as local councils • hospitals • doctors surgeries • the courts.
