This chapter will demonstrate how health professionals in learning disability services have transformed their working practices and learned to adapt their skills over recent years to more effectively meet the needs of people with learning disabilities. The chapter shows how the health professional does not work in isolation of other health professionals and how, through a systematic process of care delivery, he/she ensures the person with learning disabilities receives the healthcare required. It will

also provide some contextual background on the cultural shift and changes in how learning disability services are delivered in response to signifi cant reports regarding access to healthcare services.
