ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book shows an appreciation for how people can all be leaders in working with wounded youth. It is an inspiration for putting peace into the lives of wounded students so they can truly begin to experience success in learning. The book is about how certain principles can apply to all, as people seek to build relationships with wounded children to meet their social, emotional, and academic needs, which is vital to positioning students for transformation. It shows some of the incredible research findings from experts in the fields of trauma, brain development, and emotional literacy. A compassionate, empathic community plays a major role in positioning wounded students for transformation by mitigating stressful responses with feelings of safety and security that are conducive to learning and academic achievement.
