ABSTRACT

There are few areas more controversial in our society and culture than teen pregnancy. The debate is raging about whether educators should address the issue and whether the conversation should center on abstinence, contraceptive education, or a combination of both (comprehensive sex education). The sides in this debate have been drawn along political and religious lines, and emotions run high on both sides. In addition, some educators feel uncomfortable discussing such things as condoms, sexually transmitted diseases, and pregnancy, feeling it is a parental responsibility.
