ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the implications of using a few particular technologies in an educational setting while looking more broadly at the educational pedagogy behind their use. Using the new technology can be inspirational for some. Most e-readers have built-in dictionaries that allow the user to place the cursor on a word and the definition appears. The technology may be more engaging for students, and student engagement and learning are closely aligned. Students using e-readers have a great deal of information available to them through the e-reader itself and the connectivity of the device to the Internet. To develop student's visual literacy, have them dissect, analyze, and compare video examples. When they discover the elements of video, they develop new ways of learning from visual material. By comparing good and bad examples, they become more critical consumers and ultimately better producers.
