ABSTRACT

Autodesk Maya skeleton is a hierarchical structure composed of a chain of joints and bones that are originally used to animate body movements. Joints are the points of articulation to define the connection of bones as well as the constraints and rules of their rotation. The most effective way of using Maya skeleton to control an architectural form is the parent-children relationship, which creates a hierarchy among a series of objects. Maya skeleton system was used to create the land walker. The spatial characteristics of a folded bamboo house are determined by the structure's open angle of each rib and the spatial relation among them. With this user customized structure system, the house can react to external stimuli and be transformed within a short time frame. Maya skeleton system was used for the design. The bamboo house is a deformable structure that exhibits characteristics of an umbrella, with the potential of adapting itself to various contexts and functional requirements.
