Cultural innovation We considered the inputs into the economy-environment cycle in the form of resources at the start of Chapter 2; we now consider the outputs, the issue of how waste products are disposed of and the neg ative impact termed pollution. If the environment provides us with goods in the form of energy, minerals and natural features, then it also provides services in the form of pollution sinks, whether into land, water or the atmosphere. Here the ecological cycles provide a mechanism by which waste products are stored, dispersed or recon stituted. The issue is when the results of these processes still leave a negative impact in terms of the effect on human health and natural environments.
