ABSTRACT

Case. An older man was seeing a colleague of mine for treatment of a phobia. Mr. Gillis (fictitious name) was terrified of crossing streets. This condition had been quite disabling, since he lived in a large-sized city with many thoroughfares. The phobia had a rather sudden onset. Mr. Gillis had been an alcoholic for many years. One day two years earlier, while crossing the street in an inebriated condition, he was hit by a car. He suffered serious injuries, including a closed-head injury that left him with a brain contusion that impaired his mental capacities.
