Money management is closely related to role division, discussed in the previous chapter. Who earns the money (role of bread win ner), who manages household finances (role of manager), and who allocates resources and makes the decisions (head of household) are important issues for most families. In second marriages these issues become further complicated by the involvement of more people and by different sources of income, and there are more questions as to who is entitled to what. In stepfamilies, there is usually a second marriage for at least one of the spouses. While this book is not about problems, as noted in the chapter on discipline, it is instructive for stepfamilies to see how potential problem areas have been handled by high-functioning stepfamilies.
