ABSTRACT

This chapter considers historical developments in doctoral training programs in industrial-organizational (I-O) psychology and closely related fields. We begin the chapter with the formative years, followed by pre-World War II industrial psychology graduate training, post-World War II graduate training in I-O psychology, master’s level training, undergraduate instruction, doctoral training, and related training programs in academic departments other than psychology. We then reflect on changes in programs over time. Finally, we examine training content and curricula of graduate programs.
