ABSTRACT
Conference participants were productive in developing recommendations concerning future research to extend the scientific knowledge base on HRQOL assessment in children and adolescents. This chapter summarizes recommendations that were made concerning three main topic areas: (a) applications in evaluating the outcomes of controlled clinical trials of drug treatments and/or behavioral and psychological treatments for children and adolescents with chronic health conditions; (b) evaluating clinical applications of measures of HRQOL; and (c) studies of critical issues in the measurement of HRQOL such as comparisons of disease-specific versus generic measures, developmental, cultural, and family issues on measurement of HRQOL, utility data from multiple informants, and development of qualitative measures.
