Interviewing Child Molesters
Paying dose attention allows the listener to better notice lies that might otherwise incorrectly be ignored as misunderstandings. Careful attention is needed to recognize when the information provided is at variance with fact, is inconsistent, or changes the topic altogether. Lies usually work for child molesters for a number of reasons. Most people assurne that everyone around them tells the truth about most things. Child molesters often lie about everything. By lying, and discovering that they can get away with little lies, they learn who to target, and therefore whose children to target. As one mother noted, after discovering that the man she had been married to for years had been molesting all of her daughters, "I used to believe he lied about some things and told the truth about most things. Now 1 realize he lied about most things and hardly ever told the truth."
