ABSTRACT

The Principal Investigator (PI) simulated a staff/patient interview with a staff member enacting the role of a patient. The PI observed each staff member as he/she conducted a group session. Upon completion of the observation, the PI and the staff member brainstormed methods for the staff member to implement Role Development with patients in his/her group. Under the guidance of the PI, staff identified the roles and skills that could be developed and designed strategies to achieve their development. The chapter considers accurately implement Role Development, the set of guidelines for practice, several issues. It is imperative that the staff implementing the set of guidelines participate in adequate and effective training. The resources guide and standardize the treatment implementation. The mentors and the PI reviewed the treatment plans and constructive feedback was provided to each group. The mentors were the PI and two staff occupational therapists with several years of experience implementing sets of guidelines for practice.
