The Major Tranquilizers

The major tranquilizers, antipsychotic, or neuroleptic drugs (Tables 10.1 and 10.2) are utilized mainly in the treatment of psychoses. However, these drugs have a variety of other effects, including the ability to potenti­ ate analgesia, as well as prevent vomiting. Since several of these agents are prescribed as adjuncts to control pain, the major groups of neuroleptics will be briefly reviewed.
