Conclusions

From the preceding pages this conclusion, it seems, stands out : it is not true that the sole end of science is action, nor that it is solely governed by the desire for economy in this action. Science also wishes to make us understand nature. It tends, indeed, according to Le Roy’s expression, toward the “progressive rationalization of reality.” ⁽¹⁾
