ABSTRACT

It is widely documented that the aerobic system is the main source of energy in soccer. However, in this high intensity intermittent sport, many other factors also contribute to performance. Elements such as speed, power, strength, agility, flexibility and anaerobic capacity all combine with aerobic capacity and indeed all of these were also measured in the group of soccer players to be discussed. The purpose of such monitoring was to construct individual fitness profiles to indicate strengths and weaknesses for subsequent training prescription. This report is focused on just the aerobic capacity analysed in players throughout a pre-season period and full playing season.
