ABSTRACT

Gaelic football is played at an intensity similar to that reported for soccer. This correspondence is borne out from measurements of work-rates in both games expressed as distance covered each minute of play (Keane et al., 1993). It is further corroborated in measurements of heart rate responses which average 158 and 161 b·min−1 in Gaelic football and soccer, respectively (Florida-James and Reilly, 1995).
