ABSTRACT

Large differences in anthropometric characteristics occur during prepuberty and puberty between children of the same chronological age, due to the difference in biological maturity. In several sports, especially in contact sports as soccer, those differences may be of decisive importance. As such, the question arises if certain characteristics accord with the performance level of young soccer players. Do players with a specific body type have a larger chance to be selected for a higher competition level? Or even more, do the body characteristics of young Flemish soccer players show any sport specific profile?
