ABSTRACT

Over a 10-month period incorporating 50–60 football games, players are at risk of becoming overtrained due to ‘an imbalance between training and recovery’. Practitioners that use overtraining for adaption periodise so as to ensure a compensatory physiological supercompensation (Bompa, 1983), where ideally subsequent training should not take place until supercompensation has occurred (Harre. 1982).
